Kgosi Nyalala Molefe John Pilane

Kgosi Nyalala Molefe John Pilane has led the Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela community since 1996, overseeing 32 villages and championing education, economic empowerment, and sustainable development. Under his leadership, over 700 students have received bursaries, and an initiative to provide WiFi to rural households is bridging the digital divide.

His economic vision secured a 27% community stake in Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine, while his infrastructure projects have transformed Moruleng into a modern hub. He played a key role in establishing Madikwe Game Reserve, ensuring community-driven conservation and tourism benefits.

As Deputy President of CONTRALESA, he continues to advocate for the integration of traditional leadership into modern governance, ensuring a strong, progressive future for his people.

Since his inauguration as Senior Traditional Leader in 1996, Kgosi Pilane has overseen a population of over 350,000 people, guiding them with a unique blend of cultural wisdom and modern governance. Champion of Education & Digital Inclusion

Believing that education is the foundation of prosperity, Kgosi Pilane established the BBK Bursary Scheme, which has supported over 700 learners in pursuing careers in medicine, engineering, and academia. He is also leading the initiative to bring WiFi connectivity to rural households, ensuring that no child is left behind in the digital era.

Through strategic negotiations, he secured a 27% community stake in Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine and played a crucial role in establishing Sedibelo Resources, ensuring that mining benefits the community rather than external entities. His vision for a Post-Apartheid Smart City in Moruleng Village has driven the development of modern infrastructure, sustainable housing, and economic hubs.
